I think it’s finally safe to say - summer is here! With the season of patio happy hours and lake days upon us, it’s time to stash the winter wear and break out the summer staples. Having a variety of dresses for any and every occasion makes getting ready in the summer a breeze - just throw on a dress, simple jewelry, and a fun bag and you’re good to go. What am I loving for dresses this season? Patterns, belted waist ties, denim, and t-shirt dresses (no surprise here!). I’ve rounded up a bunch of dresses for everything from work to a night out - all under $50. Scroll to see my curated list of faves.
A couple of weeks ago, I went to a pop up shop called The Collective, featuring local businesses and artists hosted by LAB MPLS. Some I knew of prior to attending, but I couldn’t believe how many amazing Minneapolis businesses and locally-made products were packed into the space. The event had everything from candles to jewelry to prints - you name it. Not only did I leave the event crazy-inspired and excited to support small businesses, but also with tons of future gift ideas.
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I thought I’d pull together a few of my favorite gift ideas from local Minneapolis businesses (some featured at The Collective) for all of my fellow last minute shoppers. Read on for gift ideas for your mom, grandma, aunt, friend, or any other lovely lady in your life.
Pink Linen Designs
How CUTE are these wooden signs from Pink Linen Designs?! I just love how simple yet so fun and unique each one is. Kait describes her pieces as something that can “fit into pretty much any style of home, area in your home or other space” - which is what I love so much about them too.
Simple, dainty, and modern, Koonyai Studio jewelry is the perfect addition to any outfit. All jewelry pieces are handmade from concrete and hypoallergenic metals.
Lately, I’ve been super into throwing a jacket over a plain t-shirt with a fun or basic pant for a cute and easy work outfit. I like to keep my workwear professional during the spring and summer, but there’s nothing more uncomfortable than overheating at the office. To keep cool and comfortable, a lightweight fabric is key. I also love a bright color, texture, or print to mix it up (my current obsession is pin stripes). Though I love a good steal, I think splurging on a couple of timeless, versatile jackets that can be worn at the office or repurposed for a casual look is totally worth it. Happy [almost] Spring!
With the temperatures slowly warming up over the past few weeks, I’ve been super eager to put away my heavy coats and sweaters and dust off my summer pieces. At the start of every new season, I take a look at my shoe selection and take note of what I’ll wear again from past years and what styles I’m lacking. In doing so earlier this week, I realized how desperate I am for a full spring shoe refresh - for work, nights out and everything in between. If you’re in the same boat and are in need of spring and summer shoe inspiration, read on to see my roundup of mules & heels, tennies, loafers & flats and sandals.
Mules & Heels
What I love so much about heeled mules is their versatility - it’s so easy to dress them up or down for any occasion. I also love how comfy the chunky heel is; I can comfortably wear them around the office or a night out without suffering from pinched toes or sore feet.
Can you tell I love a pair of white tennis shoes? I absolutely love a pair of tennies with a casual dress, jeans, shorts - pretty much anything! Although I think neutral sneakers are an essential, it can be fun to mix in color and pattern here and there.
Loafers & Flats
For days when you just don’t feel like wearing heels, a loafer is the perfect substitute to keep your look chic and polished. I just love throwing on flats with a pair of pants and a button down for a quick and easy business casual outfit.
A summer staple, there are endless styles to take you from the beach to an evening out. It’s still a little early for sandals in MN, but here are a few of my current faves for this season.
Happy shoe shopping!
