Living in a place where it’s cold for at least half the year, winter coats are not just a small accessory, but essentially become your entire outfit. Having versatile coat options that keep you warm and toasty but still go with your look are essential to the winter wardrobe. The best part about a great winter jacket is that you can throw it over a sweatshirt and leggings and no one has any idea you’re basically wearing pajamas in public.
With so many cute coat styles out there with many different price ranges, it can be tough to determine which coats you should invest in. My rule of thumb here is to spend on the timeless pieces and save on the trendier items. Typically, I invest in a nicer, pricier coat every 2-3 or so years and about 3 bargain coats (give or take, but mostly take) each season. Whenever debating on buying a coat, I ask myself these three questions:
Can I wear it to work?
Can I also wear it to Friday HH?
Realistically, will I wear it? (Usually the answer to this is “yes,” because Minnesotans can really never have too many coats).
Read on for my favorite winter coat styles this season.
Faux Fur Coat: I’m LOVING the faux fur coat look. This little number is not only super warm but was a total steal.
Wrap Coat: This cute and cozy wrap coat can be dressed up and down - but is so soft and comfortable it borderline doubles as a robe.
Pea Coat: Heavy for negative degree days and the perfect staple for the office and dressier occasions. I also love a wool coat paired with denim for a more casual look.
Teddy Coat: Another look I’m loving, this sherpa bomber is from Anthropologie last season. I’ve also got my eye on longer styles like this one from Nordstrom.
Vest + Sweater: For those warmer winter days or days spent popping in and out of warm shops and stores, throwing a vest over a chunky sweater is my go-to.
